Uterine Fibroid Embolization

Radiologic Associates of Middletown RAM Radiology has board-certified interventional radiologists to perform your uterine fibroid embolization. RAM Interventional Radiology procedures are performed at Middlesex Health.

Embolization is a minimally invasive procedure used to block the blood flow to blood vessels. Uterine fibroid embolization is a minimally invasive procedure which treats fibroid tumors of the uterus. Fluoroscopy is used to block the arteries providing blood to the fibroids. Fibroid tumors that can cause heavy menstrual bleeding.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a very effective procedure with an approximate success rate of 85%. Most women who undergo the procedure have a dramatic improvement in their symptoms and a decrease in size of their uterine fibroids. If menstruation has been heavy, it will usually return to a more normal flow after UFE.

Uterine fibroid embolization is a non-surgical alternative to a hysterectomy. Contact your doctor to see if a uterine fibroid embolization procedure is appropriate for you.
